Actions speak louder than words: Adjusting the New Zealand economy to a low emissions world

By David Skilling & Danielle Boven - 05 March 2008

Overview

This report examines the options open to New Zealand in reducing its emissions in order to better position it to operate successfully in a low emissions global economy.

Reducing emissions in a significant way will be a challenging process. Indeed the report estimates that the policies announced to date to reduce emissions will only reduce 2050 emissions to their 1990 level.

Additional measures, such as deliberately shifting the composition of the New Zealand economy to low emissions areas and strengthening New Zealand's environmental brand should also be important parts of New Zealand's policy response to climate change.
