The New Zealand Institute has today announced it has appointed Dr. Rick Boven as its new Director.
Dr Boven is currently an independent strategy consultant and professional director. He was a former founding partner of The Boston Consulting Group in New Zealand, and has over twenty-five years experience developing business strategies and helping organisations to implement those strategies.
He was selected following an intensive search process after the departure of Dr David Skilling, former Chief Executive Officer of the Institute, in December 2008.
Dr Keith Turner, Chair, explained that the appointment of Dr Boven is an important step for the growth of the Institute.
“The decision to appoint Rick reflects the desire from the Board to define new strategies and expand its programme of work as the Institute embarks on a new phase. The Institute was launched almost five years ago and has already made a difference in terms of policy changes, such as KiwiSaver based on its first work programme the ‘Ownership Society’ and the recent government broadband investment initiative based on the Institute’s recommendations in the ‘Weightless Economy’ programme.
“Rick is a hugely committed New Zealander and will bring a wealth of experience in policy, regulation, and strategic management. He is a strong supporter of the mission of the Institute and his experience in the social sciences and environmental research and consulting will help us broaden our scope. We are all looking forward to having Rick on board.”
Dr Boven said “It was the reputation of the Institute and its potential to stimulate debate and have even greater impact on New Zealand policy that made me want to take up this challenge. The Institute has a strong membership and I am excited to follow David Skilling and help build an institution that will be valuable for New Zealand and New Zealanders.”
Dr Boven will take up his appointment on 1 July 2009.
